Indy Film Library (IFL) has announced its second annual Halloween Horror Showcase. For two weeks, starting 09:00 CET on Monday 18th of October 2021, Indy Film Library will be streaming some of the best short horror films we have received over the last year – free of charge.

IFL Chief Editor Jack Brindelli commented, “You can’t discuss the impact of independent films on the world without talking about horror. It remains the place where Indy Film has most often out-flanked Hollywood. Last year, we saw a collection of films focusing on a loss of identity – a common theme in the genre – and this year we follow on from that with a series of films where the real horror derives from our own alienation from each other.

“While several of these films might not be what some would consider ‘conventional horror,’ this core essence of losing oneself looms large in all of them. Everything from normative relationship expectations or unattainable beauty standards to exploitative working patterns and the breakdown of family bonds can see us walled off from our natural behaviour. Divorced from the essence of our humanity, we can often make monsters of ourselves – whether we are a brutal law-enforcer on the street, or a lecherous creep behind a screen. The horror is it can happen to any of us – but horror films are important because they give us a space to confront those possibilities.”

Films have been selected on the basis of both their storytelling and the technical skills exhibited by their cast and crew, in a celebration of the often-under-appreciated world of independent horror cinema.

All the films will be free to view via the Indy Film Library website – before the Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film awards will be announced. Meanwhile, viewers will also have the opportunity to select the winner of the Audience Choice Award.
