The strange and surprising world of IFL’s international filmmakers

During Day One of the 2026 IFL Awards event at Filmhuis Cavia, we hosted a live screening of our international selection for the first time. As well as introducing their work to an Amsterdam audience, we also took the opportunity to get to know some of our fabulous filmmakers better. After each screening, a Q&A session offered the chance for audiences to put questions to some of the stars and directors behind the movies.

Now, we are publishing the sessions on YouTube so viewers at home can also enjoy some of the rare insights they offered up.

First, our host for the day Dimitra Alexiou – who selected the international programme – spoke to Hi from a mayfly director Myles Wheeler, and HUNGER composer Lucas Lescano about their experiences in independent filmmaking.

Dimitra then spoke to 360° actors Lieke Witteveen and Kevin Wekker, I must go on director Mart van den Heuvel, and Wat we achterlaten director May Bresser about their films.

The Q&A sessions for Day One then concluded with Napoli-Amsterdam director Wouter Hisschemöller, Eindwerk director Sando Heijnen, Brother, may I have some oats too? director Nelson van Herzele and Cel Maatjes co-director Melle Windig taking to the stage.

Earlier in the night, IFL Editor Jack Benjamin had introduced the films, and thanked Filmhuis Cavia for their ongoing support with Indy Film Library.

And he announced the winners ahead of the night’s ending.
