IFL issues call for submissions for fifth Saturday Matinees season

The costs of running a film festival often mean they struggle to break even, let alone make a profit. That can make granting fee waivers a very difficult ask – resulting in filmmakers who already struggle to have their voices heard being further marginalised.

Movies told by artists from low-income backgrounds, opposition groups hit by censorship, or individuals in nations subjected to international sanctions still need a platform. That’s why Indy Film Library’s Saturday Matinees are returning for a fifth season.

Starting in mid-June, we will be showcasing six short films, from places where monetary and legal constraints have prevented the free communication of political and social issues. In past editions, this has seen IFL show movies from Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Guinea Bissau, and Serbia.

Ahead of our Summer 2024 run of Saturday Matinees, we are inviting filmmakers to pitch submissions, which we will then grant a full fee-waiver to for entry on FilmFreeway.

If you, or someone you know, has a film but economic or legal factors mean it is not possible to pay film festival entry fees, we would like to hear from you. Please contact us via indyfilmlibrary@gmail.com, or through our website contact form.

The deadline for requests is 23:59 on Friday June 14th 2024.
