On September 12th 2026, Indy Film Library’s sixth Experimental Showcase invites audiences to come to Amsterdam‘s Supermercator, to discover a world of independent art on their own doorstep. With screenings of films across the cinematic spectrum, and Q&As with the artists behind them, the event offers viewers an introduction to a series of diverse and innovative films, showing them in a whole new light.

Since 2020, Indy Film Library (IFL) has hosted an annual selection of experimental shorts on its website. But this year, for the first time, the showcase will take place with a physical screening. To celebrate this opportunity, the five ‘in competition’ films from 2026 (Home, Oheilster, There is something I don’t understand, A Sky Full of Stars for a Roof, Assembling Paradise) will be complemented by six films ‘Hall of Famers’ from previous Experimental Showcases (Lunatic; Napoli – Amsterdam; Monorail; Rotterdam, verlaat ons niet; Up Close; Rebirth of Venus).

Tickets are now on sale via the Supermercator website.

Founded as a community space in Amsterdam’s Mercatorplein, in the day, Supermercator provides a store for gifts; but also, a café for coffee and cake; a space to find common ground with strangers, and to debate with your friends. In the evenings, meanwhile, Supermercator serves as a diverse hub for artists: a locale for practice, performance, poetry, workshops, talks, exhibitions and films.

As an intimate, inclusive and fiercely independent institution, IFL couldn’t have found a better venue to finally host an in-person experimental short film showcase.

“The featured anthology of 12 unique films sees artists from Amsterdam and beyond invite audiences to meditate on familiar spaces, well-known genres, and common experiences,” said Jack Benjamin, editor of Indy Film Library. “Over the course of the movies – including an otherworldly Western, a documentary about an abandoned holiday resort, a sci-fi comedy, and a desert island treasure hunt – you will find yourself looking at art, cinema, and life from a fresh perspective.”
