During the 2024 IFL Awards event at Filmhuis Cavia, we took the opportunity to get to know some of our fabulous filmmakers better. After each screening, a Q&A session offered the chance for audiences to put questions to some of the stars and directors behind the movies.
Now, we are publishing the sessions on YouTube so viewers at home can also enjoy some of the rare insights they offered up.
First, our host for the day Awesta Mahani spoke to Flash/Crash director Angelo Perez Lebbink and Always Summer director Hans Dessers – who went on to win Best Director – about their experiences in independent filmmaking.
Awesta then spoke to director Jeroen Stultiens, and real-life Dinoman Aart Walen, about their movie, which was later given a Special Commendation in the Best Feature Documentary category.
In front of a packed theatre, Awesta also spoke to LOST director Harvey Kadijk and Johnny co-director Melle Posthuma de Boer about the making of the two films, which were runner-up and winner respectively for the Best Short Narrative Film award.
Finally, Awesta spoke to Sando Heijnen, who directed Doe Eens Mens, and Andreas van Riet, who won Best Cinematography for The Metamorphosis, which he also directed. Their films had just played to a sell-out crowd in the event’s final programme.
And then IFL Chief Editor Jack Benjamin announced the winners of the festival to that same crowd!
We’d like to thank everyone who helped make this day so special – and to make this definitively our best IFL festival so far! Here’s looking forward to another amazing season in 2024/25!
