Top filmmakers from the 2025 IFL Awards share their their expertise

During the 2025 IFL Awards event at Filmhuis Cavia, we took the opportunity to get to know some of our fabulous filmmakers better. After each screening, a Q&A session offered the chance for audiences to put questions to some of the stars and directors behind the movies.

Now, we are publishing the sessions on YouTube so viewers at home can also enjoy some of the rare insights they offered up.

First, our host for the day Awesta Mahani spoke to directors Maarten de Bruijne (L’Audition de Jeanne), Nicolaas Rahoens (De vlieger wacht niet), Mira Alkadri (Up Close), Andreas Aicka Thomsen (Anemoia) and Andreas van Riet (The Nettle Man) about their experiences in independent filmmaking.

Awesta then spoke to Carice van Heusden and Antonia Ackermans about their films De Bomen Houden Grote Droefheid Vast and Float.

Finally, Awesta spoke to Robin Noorda (Lunatic), Emily May ‘t Hoen (Waarom stopt ie niet gewoon?) and Sitou Akolly (Zāgbéto: Les Murmures du Masque).

And then IFL Chief Editor Jack Benjamin announced the winners of the festival to a full house!

We’d like to thank everyone who helped make this day so special – and to make this definitively our best IFL festival so far! Here’s looking forward to another amazing season in 2025/26 – submissions are open now!
