- Submissions open for inaugural season of Indy Film Library’s script-writing category
- New service looks to discover “The Next Big Script” ahead of 2025 festival – while also provided professional feedback to writers looking to improve their projects
- Early bird submissions at lower rate until the end of October
Named “The Next Big Script”, the contest will go live on October 1st 2024. All works submitted will be entered into IFL’s first script contest, the winner of which will be announced at our annual festival in Amsterdam. The victorious piece will also receive a public review (without spoilers) to help with the project’s promotion.
Like all of our services, however, this is not only a way to gain plaudits on the festival circuit. The category will allow writers submitting their work for evaluation to receive private feedback on their work, highlighting details such as potential plot-holes, areas where dialogue could be improved/cut back, and where committing scenes to film may prove too complicated.
For more than five years, Indy Film Library has offered impartial feedback on independent cinema from around the world. We founded this project because at the time, festivals did not offer feedback on the films they rejected, and we wanted to give artists a way to hone their craft beyond trial and error.
One of the things that has become clear since 2019, however, is that reviews after production has completed only goes some of the way to helping with that.
Commenting on the new service, IFL Editor Jack Benjamin said, “Sometimes, things can be simply fixed before the cameras even start rolling – and they are particularly galling to find out about from Captain Hindsight in a public review. That is why IFL will hence be offering script consulting services, to help artists trouble-shoot their next productions ahead of time.”
