Indy Film Library (IFL) is hosting a day of film screenings, celebrating the very best work from filmmakers of the Netherlands and Belgium.
Forming the final part of the organisation’s yearly awards shortlist*, the movies will be shown at Amsterdam’s Filmhuis Cavia, on Saturday April 13th 2024.
The fifth annual event will allow viewers to engage with films they will not find anywhere else, by filmmakers who represent the future of the film industry across the Benelux region, and around the world. All films come with English subtitles for international viewers.
Among the movies featured, cinema lovers will have a chance to witness breath-taking experimental, documentary and narrative films. These include Lavinia Xausa’s pulsating football fandom documentary So Loud the Sky Can Hear Us, Melle Posthuma de Boer and Ramses van Hall’s acerbic family satire Johnny, and Victoria Warmerdam’s existential sci-fi Ik ben geen robot.
IFL Chief Editor Jack Benjamin said of the selection, “Each year, selecting these films gets harder and harder – never mind choosing which ones we highlight in our press releases! Honestly, it’s the best kind of headache these artists could give me – and I’m proud to be championing their work again. This year I’ve been super-happy to see some past filmmakers return with their latest amazing projects, but I’ve also been thrilled by a lot of new discoveries, and I can’t wait to share their work with Amsterdam’s film-lovers!”
Following the screenings, the winning films of IFL’s 2023 submissions cycle will be announced. Each selection is rated 16+, and all films will show in Dutch or Flemish, with English subtitles.
Tickets are already on sale via FilmFreeway, and the IFL website. Admission will also be available at the door, but attendees should purchase in advance to avoid disappointment.

Indy Film Library (IFL) organiseert een dag van films, ter ere van het allerbeste werk van de filmmakers uit Nederland en België.
Samen vormen ze de jaarlijkse prijzenlijst van de organisatie*, de films worden vertoond in het Amsterdamse Filmhuis Cavia, op Zaterdag 13 April 2024.
Tijdens het vijfde jaarlijkse evenement kan het publiek genieten van films die ze nergens anders kunnen vinden, door filmmakers die de toekomst van de filmindustrie in de Benelux vertegenwoordigen, en ook wereldwijd. Alle films komen met Engelse ondertiteling voor internationale kijkers.
De vertoonde films geven filmliefhebbers de kans om getuige te zijn van adembenemende experimentele, documentaire en verhalende films. Dat bevat Lavinia Xausa’s pulserende documentaire over voetbalfandom So Loud the Sky Can Hear Us, Melle Posthuma de Boer en Ramses van Hall’s bittere familiesatire Johnny, en Victoria Warmerdam’s existentiële sci-fi Ik ben geen robot.
IFL hoofdredacteur Jack Benjamin zegt: “Elk jaar word het moeilijker en moeilijker om films te selecteren – laat staan kiezen wat we willen highlighten in onze persberichten! Eerlijk gezegd is het de beste hoofdpijn dat deze artiesten mij kunnen geven – en ik ben er trots op dat ik hun werk opnieuw kan eren. Dit jaar ben ik verheugd om te zien dat er eerdere filmmakers terugkomen met hun meest recente fantastische projecten, maar ik ben ook enthousiast door veel van de nieuwe ontdekkingen en ik kan niet wachten om hun werk te delen met de Amsterdamse filmliefhebbers!”
Na de vertoning worden de winnende films van IFL’s 2023 inzendingen aangekondigd. Elke selectie is 16+, en alle films zijn in het Nederlands of Vlaams met Engelse ondertiteling.
Kaartjes staan al te koop via FilmFreeway, en de IFL website. Toegang is ook mogelijk aan de deur, maar het wordt aangeraden een kaartje vooraf te kopen om teleurstelling te voorkomen.
