Tube Rats podcast nominates the 5 best short films of 2021

  • Nominees for the inaugural Tube Rats Takeover short film showcase announced
  • Indy Film Library website to screen all films free of charge for two weeks
  • Films screened from 09:00 CET January 5th 2022 include vampiric social drama ‘V’ and coming-of-age disasterpiece ‘The Story of Gangster’

To ring in the new year, and celebrate the first year of its podcast Tube Rats, Indy Film Library has launched a new online film event. Consisting of the most enjoyable films featured on the podcast this year, Tube Rats Takeover will highlight some of the most entertaining filmmakers to be found, for free, on the internet.

Indy Film Library Editor Jack Brindelli commented, “We launched Tube Rats early in 2021, because with cinemas still closed, and many people having ‘completed’ Netflix, we wanted to show there was a world of amazing cinema available for free at your fingertips, at any time. It’s been tremendous fun spending the rest of the year panning for gold with Jimmy, Georgia and Jason. Now, we’ve picked out five golden nuggets… and five nuggets of another kind… for special commendation / condemnation. See if you agree with us!”

For two weeks, starting 09:00 CET on Wednesday the 5th of January 2022, Indy Film Library will be streaming two selections. The first will consist of the five films the Tube Rats nominated as the very best of the year. The second will include a rogue’s gallery of films which were so bad they were good.

Speaking on the second category in particular, Tube Rats Co-Host Georgia Madison added, “Tube Rats has been so much fun to be part of and I hope our inane ramblings and amateur dissections have brought some amusement to people as we all trudge through this pandemic together. Besides, there’s no self esteem boost quite like watching a grown man unironically produce an astoundingly terrible film in order to stroke his… ego…”

A special episode of Tube Rats will go live alongside this selection, announcing which films won the Critics’ Choice Award for Tube Rats in both categories – before the Rats put it back to the listeners for a final vote. Once those votes have been counted, the films with the highest tallies will be named the ultimate winners of both categories.
